In Prishtina, protests erupted among the students of the University of Prishtina due to dissatisfaction with the poor living and studying conditions. Demands initially related to social content evolved into demands that reflected political, social, and national dissatisfaction. The demands of the students were an accumulation of grievances that the Albanians of Kosova had, because the solution of the Kosova issue and its political and constitutional position in the former Yugoslav federation was not equal to the other peoples and republics in the former Yugoslavia. These political, national, social, economic injustices were accumulated and erupted in 1981, with the goal that Albanians would have equal rights with other peoples in Yugoslavia and to have their own republic. March 11, 1981, marks the day when the cornerstone of the Republic of Kosova was laid. (In the photo: Moment from the student demonstrations.)
