The Battles of Luzhnica

Lexo ngjarje:

June 3– August 25, 1998

In Kosovo, the “Battles of Luzhnica” took place against Serbian forces in Bajrak of Luzhnica (Kosovo). They were intended to prevent the Serbian forces from moving through the Caraleva gorge in the direction of Duhla and their penetration into the areas where the General Headquarters of the Kosovo Liberation Army was located. The fighters of the Kosovo Liberation Army made it possible for a long time for Bajrak of Luzhnica to be impassable for the Serbian forces and their combat technique, deployed in the neck of Duhla. About 150 fighters of the Kosovo Liberation Army participated in the fighting on August 24-25, 1998. The number of enemy forces was several times greater and equipped with the most modern equipment and weapons. The fighting lasted more than 37 hours, even going into hand-to-hand matches. The commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army troops, Ismet Jashari, and 5 fighters fell in these battles. The enemy’s losses in people and combat equipment were several times greater. After these battles, the forces of the Kosovo Liberation Army were temporarily withdrawn to prepare to retake the positions of Bajrak of Luzhnica on October 28, 1998.
