Petrit Radovicka, hydropower engineer, professor, academic, Hero of Socialist Labor was born in Leskovik. He attended the high school in Tirana and began his higher studies at the Polytechnic University of Turin (1939), which he interrupted in 1942 and participated in the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War. After the liberation, he completed his higher studies at the Energy Institute in Moscow (1950). Petrit Radovicka was the director of the Power Plant, since its creation (1951), on which the Albanian Unique Electric System was then built. It dealt with the study of energy development in our country, processing and defending the primary variant for the construction of powerful HECs (hydroelectric energy) combined with TECs (thermal power plants). Petrit Radovicka has been a lecturer at the Higher Polytechnic Institute since its creation, vice-president of the Institute of Sciences (1955), vice-rector of the University of Tirana (1965-1968), vice-president of the Academy of Sciences of Albania (1972-1980) ), rector of the University of Tirana (1975–1981), chairman of the Science and Technology Committee, since its creation (1981–1987) and head of the Chair of Power Plants at the University of Tirana (1987–1990). Petrit Radovicka has represented our country in international forums for the use of water assets, participated as a group leader in the International Congress of Large Dams in London and created the National Committee of Large Dams in Albania. He was a member of the People’s Assembly (1974-1982). He received the title of “Outstanding Science and Technology Worker” and the Republic Award of the First Class (twice). He passed away in 1991.
