Father Donat Kurti was born in Shkodër, Catholic clergyman, scholar, ethnographer, and prominent folklorist. He studied theology and philosophy at the Antonian College in Rome. He was ordained a priest in 1927. After returning to Shkodër, he taught at the “Illyricum” Franciscan High School. From 1938 to 1941 he served as the director of this high school. He was re-elected in 1944. Like many Catholic priests, he was arrested in 1946 and spent 17 years in prison (in Shkodër, Burrel, Bede and other internment camps). He passed away in 1983.
