Based on Order no. 348, dated 28.07.2003, of the Minister of Culture, the 29th of September every year has been declared as “National Day of Cultural Heritage”. At the center of this day is the dedication and sacrifice of all those who have contributed to the formation and study of this heritage, as well as the work and lives of those who have sacrificed directly for it. In declaring this National Day as Cultural Heritage, the sublime act of the Albanian soldier Kamber Bënja, who in 1916 protected the assets of Apollonia from theft, also has had an influence. In the service of the National Government of Vlora as a career officer, Kamber Bënja took command of the Albanian battalion protecting the cultural assets of the country and not allowing the shipment of ancient sculptures found during excavations in Vienna. The celebration of this day foresees the obligation of all cultural and heritage institutions to organize various cultural activities. (Pictured: Illustrative historic settlements.)
