In Paris, the formation of the “Shqipëria e Lirë” (“Free Albania”) National Committee was announced, led by the well-known patriot Mithat Frashëri. Functioning as a government in exile and supported by Anglo-American forces, the committee was headed by an executive committee that included members Abaz Kupi, Seit Kryeziu, Zef Pali, and Nuçi Kota, with its headquarters situated in New York. Alongside it was a general consultative committee with a broader composition, also chaired by Abaz Kupi, who had two deputies, Abaz Ermenji and Seit Kryeziu, and a secretary named Gaqo Gogo. In a statement to the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) in London in September 1949, Mithat Frashëri emphasized that the National Committee’s goal was to fight for Albania’s independence, ensuring sovereignty and liberation from the communist regime.
