The first issue of the newspaper “Përlindja e Shqipërisë” (“Birth of Albania”) was published in Vlora from 1913 to 1914, making it one of the first newspapers of the independent Albanian state. It was published twice a week and continued until its 21st issue in 1914. From issue number 5 (August 14th-27th, 1913), the newspaper was directed by Dhimitër Berati. It covered political, economic, social, and cultural news and supported the policies of the Provisional Government of Vlora. The newspaper defended the rights of the Albanian people against the ambitions of neighboring monarchies, called for the unification of the people, and published articles regarding the organization of the new state and the development of education, among other topics.
