The United Nations Organization is founded, the largest and most representative international political organization today. The United Nations was created by representatives of 51 member states gathered in San Francisco (USA). The People’s Republic of Albania was admitted to the United Nations in 1955, after a 10-year period of existence of this organization. The continuous requests of the Albanian government to join the United Nations began as early as 1944, but in the conditions of the Cold War, they were rejected by the representatives of the United States of America, Great Britain and most of the members of the Assembly. Today, the United Nations has 185 member states. The main tasks of the United Nations Organization are: maintaining peace throughout the world; development of friendly relations between nations: development and improvement of living conditions; the fight against hunger, disease, illiteracy and respect for freedom and human rights. The name of the United Nations Organization was suggested by the President of the United States of America, Franklin Roosevelt (Roosevelt). It was officially used for the first time in 1942, when representatives of 26 countries signed the United Nations Declaration. The headquarters of the United Nations Organization are in New York (USA), Geneva (Switzerland). The activity of the United Nations Organization extends almost throughout the world through these bodies: the General Assembly, the Security Council; Economic and Social Council ; Guardianship Council; International Court of Justice based in The Hague (Netherlands); Secretariat. In 1966 , the United Nations Office for Europe was established in Geneva, Switzerland, which deals with the organization of diplomatic conferences and other activities of an economic and social nature. Over 1,600 people work in this institution and over 8,000 meetings are held annually. 14 other organizations are associated with the United Nations, known as its specialized agencies, which are: the International Monetary Fund, the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the World Health Organization, the Food and Agriculture Organization, the International Labor Organization etc. The United Nations is financed by member countries. Its biggest contributors are: USA (25%), Japan (15.6%), Germany (9%), France (6.4%), Russian Federation (4.3%).
