The establishment of the Academy of Sciences of Albania.

The Academy of Sciences of Albania, a high scientific institution, was founded in Tirana. It was founded by the union of the country’s most prominent scientists, who became its members, and the institutes and scientific sectors that were part of the State University of Tirana. It was then expanded with new scientific institutes and sectors. The Academy of Sciences of Albania was created as an institution financed with a special designation from the state budget, based on programs for the study of the main scientific problems presented by it. The Academy of Sciences of Albania with the scientific institutions it includs, has conducted studies and researches for important problems in the fields of Albanian, social, natural and technical sciences; has cooperated with other scientific institutions and centers and with universities, as well as with other higher institutions, aiming for the most effective integration of research work with the teaching process. Until January 2007, the Academy of Sciences of Albania consisted of two sections: 1) The section of social and Albanian sciences, which included: the Institute of History, the Institute of Linguistics and Literature, the Institute of Popular Culture, the Institute of Archaeology, Arts Study Center, Albanian Encyclopedia Center, Institute of Economics and 2) Section of Natural and Technical Sciences, which included: Institute of Nuclear Physics, Institute of Informatics and Applied Mathematics, Institute of Biological Research, Institute of Hydrometeorology , Institute of Seismology, Center for Geographical Studies, Center for Hydraulic Research. Based on the previous legal provisions, the maximum possible number of members of the Academy of Sciences of Albania (academics) was 45 people. The Academy of Sciences of Albania is a member of the Inter-Academic Panel-IAP (World Federation of Academies), of the Pan-European Federation of Academies (ALLEA), of the International Union of Academies (UIA), of the International Center for Black Sea Studies, of the Inter-Academic Council of Southeast Europe. The Academy of Sciences of Albania has cooperation agreements with the Academies of Sciences in a number of countries in the world, such as Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Italy, Turkey, Poland, Russia, Egypt, Israel, China as well as with the National Research Center (CNR) in Italy.
