Kruno Krstić

Kruno Krstić, linguist, philosopher and psychologist, passed away in Zagreb, Croatia. He was born in Arbanas near the city of Zadar, Croatia, in 1905. In 1726 and 1733, his ancestors settled in Arbanas. In 1926, he graduated from the classical Italian secondary school “Gabriele D’Annunzio”, in Zadar. Then, from 1926, he studied philosophy with psychology and Italian language and literature at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Zagreb, where he graduated in 1930 and then in the same faculty, in 1934 he received a diploma in French and Latin language and literature. He defended the scientific degree “Doctor of Science” in 1937 with the dissertation “Psychology and its content: perspective polymorphism of the subject of psychology”. Kruno Krstić is the author of important texts, such as “Croatian language legislation”, “Meaning space of words”, “The issue of Serbs”, “Historical path of Croatian literary language” etc., most of which were published in the press in 1941–1942. He is the author of one of the most important works that document the linguistic and cultural heritage of the Arbëresh people of Zadar “Dictionary of today’s speech of the Arbëresh people of Zara”. He passed away in Zagreb, in 1987. After his death, he was honored by renaming an elementary school in Zadar, with the name “Kruno Krstić”. The bust of Kruno Krstić has been placed in the Arbanasi of Zadar, as part of the days of Arberesh culture “Our Lady of Loreto” that were held in May 2023, on the occasion of the 297th anniversary of the settlement of the Arberesh in Zadar.
