In Kaçanik, Kosovo, Besnik Begunca was born—a member and martyr of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). He participated in numerous patriotic activities in Kaçanik during the 1990s. In March 1998, he joined the ranks of the KLA in Kaçanik. On August 4, 1998, he became part of a unit of 23 fighters prepared to engage in combat against Serbian forces in the Nerodime Operational Zone, in the area of Jezerc. In 1998, in the village of Gabrricë, he fell as a martyr during a clash with Serbian forces.
