Diplomatic relations between Albania and the United States were established. Diplomatic relations between the United States and Albania were reestablished on March 15, 1991, after a 52-year hiatus. Relations with the United States are of paramount and strategic importance. The level of bilateral relations is considered excellent. The strategic partnership with the United States constitutes one of the cornerstones of Albania’s foreign policy. The Albanian government is fully committed to being a steadfast partner alongside the United States in promoting democratic developments, preserving stability, peace, and prosperity in the region and beyond, consolidating the market economy, combating terrorism, and protecting human rights. Both countries, as NATO allies, contribute to enhancing security and stability worldwide. The Joint Declaration on the Albania-U.S. Strategic Partnership, signed on April 20, 2015, in Washington, best reflects the partnership relations between the two countries and materializes cooperation with a concrete and comprehensive calendar.
