April 18 – International Day of Historical Monuments and Sites. In 1982, ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites) established April 18 as the International Day for Monuments and Sites, a date which was adopted as such at the 22nd General Conference of UNESCO, held in 1983. Since this period, April 18 mars the day of celebration and promotion of cultural heritage and has been evaluated as an opportunity to increase awareness of the diversity, importance, need and benefits of its preservation and protection. The mission of this day is to educate the younger generation about the issues surrounding monuments, as well as to draw attention to the care that should be shown towards cultural heritage. In honor of this day in Albania, free entry to cultural monuments is organized, as well as various activities related to the values, importance and dangers that threaten these monuments.
