The first issue of the newspaper “Besa” (“The Pledge”) (1908-1909), a political and social newspaper in Albanian and Turkish, was published in Istanbul. It was among the first newspapers of the Albanians in Istanbul after the announcement of the Young Turk Constitution. It continued to be published irregularly even during 1909; 12 numbers came out; no. 8 (December 31, 1909) came out with the title “Besa-Bashkim” (“Pledge-Unity”); from no. 9 (January 11, 1909) until the end, it came out again with the title “Besa“. During this period, the patriots collaborated: Cile Vreto, Hilë Mosi, Nastas Frashëri, Murat Toptani, etc. (In the photo: “Besa” newspaper page.)
