Esat Stavileci, a jurist, professor, and academic, passed away in Gjakova. He was born in Gjakovë in 1942, where he completed high school. He earned his undergraduate degree at the Faculty of Law in Prishtina, followed by postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Law in Zagreb and the International Faculty of Comparative Law in Strasbourg, France. He served as a lecturer at the Faculty of Law of Prishtina, head of the Department of Administrative Law, and vice-dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Prishtina. He was also the editor-in-chief of the scientific journals “Përparimi” (“Progress”) and “E drejta- Pravo” (“Right – Pravo”). He authored many books and studies in the fields of constitutional law, comparative political systems, public administration, language and the national issue, methodology of social and legal sciences, and legal terminology. Among his notable works are: “Cështja shqiptare në udhëkryqin e zgjidhjeve paqësore” (“The Albanian Issue in the Crossroads of Peaceful Solutions”) (in Albanian and English, 1995), “Hyrje në shkencat administrative” (“Introduction to Administrative Sciences,” 1997), “Në mbrojtje të pavarësisë së Kosovës” (“In Defense of the Independence of Kosovo,” 1998), and “Kosova nën administrim ndërkombëtar” (“Kosovo Under International Administration,” 2000), among others. The juridical-constitutional position of Kosovo has been one of the main topics in his writings; on this issue, he published several books in Albanian and English, helping to raise awareness of the Kosovo issue and the situation of Albanians in the former Yugoslavia.
