Mehmet Ali Pasha, the son of two Albanian parents, was born in Kavalla of the Ottoman Empire, a city <\/span>located<\/span> today in Greece. Known worldwide as the founder of the modern Egyptian state, he contributed to developing the economy and culture and, of course, strengthening its army. Being a strong commander in the Ottoman Empire, he not only managed to extend his rule to Egypt and Sudan (reigned 17 May 1805 – 2 March 1848), but also made history as a figure of major importance in Ako, Gaza, Jerusalem, Syria, Aleppo, Damascus, Mecca, Medina, etc. The dynasty that Mehmet Ali Pasha founded ruled Egypt until the 1952 Revolution, when King Farouk was overthrown by the Free Officers Movement led by Mohamed Naguib and Gamal Abdel Nasser, thus <\/span>establishing<\/span> the Republic of Egypt. <\/span><\/span>(In the photo: Portrait of Mehmet Ali Pasha)<\/span><\/span><\/em> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
