Dhimitër<\/span> Kokoneshi<\/span>, participant <\/span>of<\/span> the <\/span>Anti-Fascist<\/span> National<\/span> Liberation<\/span> War<\/span>, <\/span>Archbis<\/span>ho<\/span>p<\/span> of<\/span> the <\/span>Autocephalous<\/span> Ort<\/span>ho<\/span>dox<\/span> Church<\/span> of<\/span> Albania<\/span> (1966-1967), <\/span>was<\/span> born<\/span> in the <\/span>village<\/span> of<\/span> Llëngë in <\/span>Pogradec. He <\/span>attended<\/span> the <\/span>Monastery<\/span> Normal <\/span>Sc<\/span>ho<\/span>ol<\/span> and<\/span> worked<\/span> as a <\/span>teacher<\/span> in <\/span>his<\/span> native<\/span> village<\/span>, <\/span>where<\/span> he <\/span>also<\/span> served<\/span> as <\/span>psaltery<\/span> and<\/span> guardian<\/span> of<\/span> the <\/span>church<\/span>. In 1927, he <\/span>became<\/span> a <\/span>priest<\/span> and<\/span> served<\/span> in the <\/span>Church<\/span> of<\/span> Saint<\/span> Marena in <\/span>his<\/span> ho<\/span>metown<\/span>. He <\/span>took<\/span> part<\/span> in the <\/span>National<\/span> Liberation<\/span> Anti-Fascist<\/span> War<\/span> at the <\/span>head<\/span> of<\/span> the <\/span>partisan<\/span> unit <\/span>of<\/span> Llëng<\/span>ë<\/span>, <\/span>created<\/span> in 1942. <\/span>After<\/span> the <\/span>liberation<\/span>, he <\/span>was<\/span> appointed<\/span> to <\/span>various<\/span> positions<\/span> in the <\/span>local<\/span> government<\/span>. He <\/span>returned<\/span> to <\/span>church<\/span> service<\/span> in 1949; in 1950 he <\/span>was<\/span> consecrated<\/span> bis<\/span>ho<\/span>p<\/span> and<\/span> in 1953, he <\/span>was<\/span> appointed<\/span> bis<\/span>ho<\/span>p<\/span> of<\/span> Gjirokastra. By <\/span>decision<\/span> of<\/span> the <\/span>leadership<\/span> of<\/span> the <\/span>Albanian<\/span> Autocephalous<\/span> Ort<\/span>ho<\/span>dox<\/span> Church<\/span> in 1966, <\/span>Monsignor<\/span> Dhimitër<\/span> Kokoneshi<\/span> was<\/span> enthroned<\/span> as <\/span>Archbis<\/span>ho<\/span>p<\/span> of<\/span> Tirana <\/span>and<\/span> all <\/span>of<\/span> Albania<\/span>. <\/span>He<\/span> disagreed<\/span> with<\/span> the 1967 <\/span>decision<\/span> to <\/span>close<\/span> religious<\/span> institutions<\/span> and<\/span> violate<\/span> freedom<\/span> of<\/span> belief<\/span>.
