{"id":8120,"date":"1970-01-01T00:00:00","date_gmt":"1970-01-01T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.albanianheritage.al\/1970\/01\/01\/shtjefen-gjecovi-2\/"},"modified":"2025-10-15T18:53:14","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T18:53:14","slug":"shtjefen-gjecovi-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.albanianheritage.al\/en\/1970\/01\/01\/shtjefen-gjecovi-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Shtjef\u00ebn Gje\u00e7ovi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Shtjef\u00ebn Gje\u00e7ovi (M\u00ebhill Konstandin Gje\u00e7i Kryeziu), writer, publicist, translator, cleric, ethnographer, archeologist, was killed by the Serbs in the Rrezin Hill of Zym of Hasi i That\u00eb. He was born in Janjev\u00eb, Kosovo, in 1874. He completed his primary education in his hometown. In 1884 he entered the Franciscan College of Troshan (Shkodra Province). In 1988, after finishing college, he went to the Assembly of Fojnica (Bosnia). He continued his studies in Dervente, in Banja-Lluk\u00eb. He completed his theological studies in Kreshev\u00eb. In 1896 he was appointed a priest in Troshan. There he took the new name Shtjef\u00ebn-Kostandin. He served in Rubik and in 1897 he was transferred as a parish priest in Zllakuqan in Klin\u00eb. He was a teacher of the first Albanian school in Zllakuqan. He continued to work in other places: in La\u00e7 of Kurbin (he reopened the Albanian school), in Gomsiqe in Mirdita, in Durr\u00ebs, in Vlor\u00eb, in Shkod\u00ebr and as an Albanian teacher in Arb\u00ebresh in Zadar (1905). In the last years of his life, he returned to work in Zym of Hasi. In 1929, because of his patriotic, educational and cultural activity, he was killed by the Serbs on Rrezin Hill of Ztm of Hasi i That\u00eb. The activity of Shtjef\u00ebn Gje\u00e7ovi includes many published works and manuscripts. His published works are: &#8220;Kanuni i Lek\u00eb Dukagjini ner Malcina t&#8217;Mdhaa&#8221; (\u201cThe Kanun of Lek\u00eb Dukagjin among Great Highlands\u201d), subsequently published in the magazine Albania (1898-1899); &#8220;Dashtunia e adheut&#8221; (\u201cLove of Homeland\u201d), (drama, 1901); &#8220;<i>Agimet e Gjytetniis<\/i>&#8220;, didactic moral work (1910); &#8220;Princi i Dy Dibrave apo Mojsi Golemi&#8221; (\u201cThe prince of two Dibras or Mojsi Golemi\u201d)(1904); &#8220;Tradhti Gjaksore (Vrasja e Mark Kulit)&#8221; (\u201cBloody betrayal(The murder of Mark Kuli)\u201d) (1906); &#8220;P\u00ebrkrenarja e Sk\u00ebnderbeut&#8221; (\u201cSkanderbeg\u2019s Helmet\u201d) (1914).
