Shefqet Beja, political activist, vice president of the National Liberation Front, deputy of the first legislature (1945), was executed by hanging in Tirana. He was born in Durr\u00ebs, in 1914. He completed his higher studies in economics in Italy. He took an active part in the National Liberation Front. He is one of the initiators of publishing the “Bashkimi” (\u201cUnity\u201d) newspaper, an organ of the National Liberation Front and vice president of this front. In the first legislature after the war (1945) he was elected deputy of the city of Durr\u00ebs. He openly opposed the establishment of the communist dictatorship. On August 7, 1947, at the XI meeting of the People’s Assembly, his mandate was removed, along with that of seven other deputies. He was accused of forming a clandestine organization in cooperation with “enemies of the people”.
