In the village of <\/span>Vojnik<\/span> in the municipality of Skënderaj, Abaz Thaçi was born, a fighter of the Kosovo Liberation Army, Hero of Kosovo. He studied at the Military Academy in Zagreb, where he graduated as <\/span>a logistics<\/span> officer. He served in the Yugoslav army for four years. After the start of the war in Croatia, in 1990, he deserted from the army and emigrated to Germany. In 1998 he returned to Kosovo. He was appointed to the “Skënderbeu” <\/span>(“Skanderbeg”) <\/span>unit of the Kosovo Military Guard. In April 1999, he was placed in Padesh, on the Kosovo-Albania border line. He was then appointed commander of one of the fighting areas in Koshare, a task he carried out until his death. On April 26, 1999, Abaz Thaçi, with his two soldiers, captured alive the courier of the Serbian commander, who was handed over to NATO forces. During one of the biggest battles on the Koshare front, he <\/span>died<\/span> at the place called <\/span>Rrasa<\/span> of<\/span> Koshare, in 1999.
