Ma<\/span>rk K<\/span>ra<\/span>sniqi<\/span>, a university professor, ethnog<\/span>ra<\/span>pher, geog<\/span>ra<\/span>pher, writer, and academic, passed away in Prishtina. He was born in <\/span>Gllaviçia<\/span> near Peja in 1920, where he completed his pri<\/span>ma<\/span>ry education before finishing high school in <\/span>Prizren<\/span> in 1941. Between 1<\/span>941 and 1943, he studied <\/span>li<\/span>te<\/span>ra<\/span>ture at the University of Padua in Italy, and later, from 1946 to 1950, he studied the geog<\/span>ra<\/span>phy of ethnog<\/span>ra<\/span>phy at the University of Belg<\/span>ra<\/span>de. After World War II, he worked as a journa<\/span>li<\/span>st-editor for the newspaper “<\/span>Ri<\/span>li<\/span>ndja<\/span>” <\/span>(“Renaissance”) pub<\/span>li<\/span>shed in <\/span>Prizren<\/span> from 1945 to 1946, and <\/span>subsequently<\/span> (1947-1949) at <\/span>Ra<\/span>dio-Belg<\/span>ra<\/span>de, where he edited shows in the Albanian language. From 1950 to 1961, he was employed at the Ethnog<\/span>ra<\/span>phic Institute of the Serbian Academy of Sciences in B<\/span>elg<\/span>ra<\/span>de, initially as an assistant and later as a “scientific associate.” He received his docto<\/span>ra<\/span>te from the University of Ljubljana in 1960. From 1961 to 1981, he served as a professor at the University of Prishtina until the Serbian government excluded h<\/span>im from the teaching process. In 1979, he was elected a member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Kosovo, where he served as both vice president and president. K<\/span>ra<\/span>sniqi was the first <\/span>chair<\/span>ma<\/span>n<\/span> of the Writers’ Association of Kosovo in 1970, <\/span>chair<\/span>ma<\/span>n<\/span> of t<\/span>he Democ<\/span>ra<\/span>tic Christian Albanian Party of Kosovo from 1993, and an external member of the Academy of Sciences of Albania. He pub<\/span>li<\/span>shed seve<\/span>ra<\/span>l scientific books focusing on <\/span>geoethnog<\/span>ra<\/span>phic<\/span>, anthropogeog<\/span>ra<\/span>phic, and ethnocultu<\/span>ra<\/span>l themes, in addition to <\/span>li<\/span>te<\/span>ra<\/span>ry works, journa<\/span>li<\/span>sm, and textbooks. He t<\/span>ra<\/span>nslated <\/span>numerous<\/span> novels and collections of poems from Serbo-Croatian, Slovenian, and <\/span>Ma<\/span>cedonian into Albanian. His journa<\/span>li<\/span>sm included a four-book series titled “Qëndrime e <\/span>reagime<\/span>” (“Attitudes and Reactions”) (19<\/span>95) and “<\/span>Përpjekje<\/span> për<\/span> Kosovën<\/span>” (“Efforts for Kosovo”) (2001).
