The “Battle o<\/span>f<\/span> Vi<\/span>th<\/span>kuqi<\/span>” <\/span>ma<\/span>rked the <\/span>f<\/span>irst combat<\/span> action invol<\/span>vi<\/span>ng the 1st Assault <\/span>Briga<\/span>de, the largest combat <\/span>f<\/span>or<\/span>ma<\/span>tion o<\/span>f<\/span> the Albanian National <\/span>Li<\/span>be<\/span>ra<\/span>tion Army up to that point. The Ita<\/span>li<\/span>an invaders aimed to <\/span>e<\/span>li<\/span>minate<\/span> the 1st Assault <\/span>Briga<\/span>de and the partisan <\/span>f<\/span>orces o<\/span>f<\/span> the <\/span>Korça<\/span> district <\/span>ope<\/span>ra<\/span>ting<\/span> in th<\/span>e <\/span>Vi<\/span>th<\/span>kuq<\/span> area, deploying signi<\/span>f<\/span>icant troops <\/span>f<\/span>rom the “Arezzo” di<\/span>vi<\/span>sion along with various tools and combat techniques. Their actions were <\/span>f<\/span>urther supported by a Ger<\/span>ma<\/span>n di<\/span>vi<\/span>sion equipped with heavy artillery. In de<\/span>f<\/span>e<\/span>nse o<\/span>f<\/span> Vi<\/span>th<\/span>kuq<\/span>, the <\/span>f<\/span>orces o<\/span>f<\/span> the 1st As<\/span>sault <\/span>Briga<\/span>de, along with the <\/span>Korça<\/span> district batta<\/span>li<\/span>ons “Tomori” and “Qamil <\/span>Panariti<\/span>,” and the <\/span>Vi<\/span>th<\/span>kuq<\/span> partisan detachment, totaled appro<\/span>xi<\/span>ma<\/span>tely 1,100 <\/span>f<\/span>ighters.
