Hasan <\/span>Ceka<\/span> was born in Elbasan and is recognized as one of <\/span>t<\/span>he founders of Albanian archaeology, specializing in an<\/span>t<\/span>iqui<\/span>t<\/span>y and numisma<\/span>t<\/span>ics. He comple<\/span>t<\/span>ed high school in his home<\/span>t<\/span>own and gradua<\/span>t<\/span>ed from <\/span>t<\/span>he Universi<\/span>t<\/span>y of Vienna wi<\/span>t<\/span>h a degree <\/span>in archaeology in 1930. <\/span>T<\/span>ha<\/span>t<\/span> same year, he re<\/span>t<\/span>urned <\/span>t<\/span>o Albania, where he worked on crea<\/span>t<\/span>ing an archaeological collec<\/span>t<\/span>ion and <\/span>represen<\/span>t<\/span>ed<\/span> t<\/span>he Albanian s<\/span>t<\/span>a<\/span>t<\/span>e on foreign missions in Bu<\/span>t<\/span>rin<\/span>t<\/span> and Apollonia. From 1947 un<\/span>t<\/span>il his re<\/span>t<\/span>iremen<\/span>t<\/span>, <\/span>Ceka<\/span> engaged in ex<\/span>t<\/span>ens<\/span>ive research and s<\/span>t<\/span>udy ac<\/span>t<\/span>ivi<\/span>t<\/span>ies, dedica<\/span>t<\/span>ing 40 years <\/span>t<\/span>o excava<\/span>t<\/span>ing and s<\/span>t<\/span>udying <\/span>t<\/span>he ancien<\/span>t<\/span> ci<\/span>t<\/span>y of Apollonia. He au<\/span>t<\/span>hored <\/span>numerous<\/span> ar<\/span>t<\/span>icles on various his<\/span>t<\/span>orical and archaeological <\/span>t<\/span>opics published abroad and, as a connoisseur of ancien<\/span>t<\/span> Greek and La<\/span>t<\/span>in<\/span>, <\/span>assis<\/span>t<\/span>ed<\/span> in preparing <\/span>t<\/span>he volume “<\/span>Ilirë<\/span>t<\/span> dhe<\/span> Iliria <\/span>t<\/span>ek<\/span> au<\/span>t<\/span>orë<\/span>t<\/span> an<\/span>t<\/span>ikë<\/span>” (“Illyrians and Illyria among Ancien<\/span>t<\/span> Au<\/span>t<\/span>hors”). He also focused on <\/span>es<\/span>t<\/span>ablishing<\/span> a numisma<\/span>t<\/span>ic cabine<\/span>t<\/span>, culmina<\/span>t<\/span>ing in <\/span>t<\/span>he publica<\/span>t<\/span>ion of his works “<\/span>Probleme<\/span> t<\/span>ë<\/span> numizma<\/span>t<\/span>ikës<\/span> ilire<\/span>” (“<\/span>Problems of Illyrian Numisma<\/span>t<\/span>ics”) (1965) and “<\/span>Në<\/span> kërkim<\/span> t<\/span>ë<\/span> his<\/span>t<\/span>orisë<\/span> Ilire<\/span>” (“In Search of Illyrian His<\/span>t<\/span>ory”) (1998).
