T<\/span>he firs<\/span>t<\/span> issue of <\/span>t<\/span>he newspaper “<\/span>Përlindja<\/span> e <\/span>Shqipërisë<\/span>” (“Bir<\/span>t<\/span>h of Albania”) was published in Vlora from 1913 <\/span>t<\/span>o 1914, making i<\/span>t<\/span> one of <\/span>t<\/span>he firs<\/span>t<\/span> newspapers of <\/span>t<\/span>he independen<\/span>t<\/span> Albanian s<\/span>t<\/span>a<\/span>t<\/span>e. I<\/span>t<\/span> was published <\/span>t<\/span>wice a week and con<\/span>t<\/span>inued un<\/span>t<\/span>il i<\/span>t<\/span>s 21s<\/span>t<\/span> iss<\/span>ue in 1914. From issue number 5 (Augus<\/span>t<\/span> 14<\/span>t<\/span>h-27<\/span>t<\/span>h, 1913), <\/span>t<\/span>he newspaper was direc<\/span>t<\/span>ed by Dhimi<\/span>t<\/span>ër Bera<\/span>t<\/span>i. I<\/span>t<\/span> covered poli<\/span>t<\/span>ical, economic, social, and cul<\/span>t<\/span>ural news and suppor<\/span>t<\/span>ed <\/span>t<\/span>he policies of <\/span>t<\/span>he Provisional Governmen<\/span>t<\/span> of Vlora. <\/span>T<\/span>he newspaper defended <\/span>t<\/span>he<\/span> righ<\/span>t<\/span>s of <\/span>t<\/span>he Albanian people agains<\/span>t<\/span> t<\/span>he ambi<\/span>t<\/span>ions of neighboring monarchies, called for <\/span>t<\/span>he unifica<\/span>t<\/span>ion of <\/span>t<\/span>he people, and published ar<\/span>t<\/span>icles <\/span>regarding<\/span> t<\/span>he organiza<\/span>t<\/span>ion of <\/span>t<\/span>he new s<\/span>t<\/span>a<\/span>t<\/span>e and <\/span>t<\/span>he developmen<\/span>t<\/span> of educa<\/span>t<\/span>ion, among o<\/span>t<\/span>her <\/span>t<\/span>opics. <\/span><\/span>(In <\/em><\/span>t<\/span>he pho<\/span>t<\/span>o<\/span>: Number 2 of <\/span>t<\/span>he “Bir<\/span>t<\/span><\/em>h of Albania” newspaper<\/em>.)<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
