Xhemil Demiraj, serviceman, died in Durr\u00ebs. He was born in Ku\u00e7, Vlora, in 1905. In 1929, he completed the Carabinieri School in Florence, Italy. After returning to his homeland, he served in Gjirokast\u00ebr, Shkod\u00ebr, Durr\u00ebs and Peshkopi. During the years 1942-1944 he served at the Ministry of War. In October 1944, he left for Shkod\u00ebr. Aligned with the anti-communist resistance forces that fought in the mountains of the North. He was arrested in Valbona. After spending a year and a half in the interrogation offices, on September 6, 1946 he was sentenced to death by firing squad; later, his sentence was commuted to 30 years in prison. He worked in the Jube Sukthi swamp, the Peqin-Kavaj\u00eb canal, Maliq-Orman-Pojan, Vlashuk, the Ku\u00e7ova military airport, the Vjos\u00eb-Levan-Fier canal and in Zadrim\u00eb. He was released in 1960. In 1967, he was interned with his wife in Ku\u00e7 in Vlora, from where they were released in 1973. (In the photo: Xhemil Demiraj)<\/i><\/p>\n
