In Durr\u00ebs, during the visit to Albania as a guest of the University of Tirana, Franc Babinger (Franz), historian, Ottomanologist and Balkanologist, passed away. He was born in Weiden (Weiden) in Bavaria (Germany) 1891. Since he completed his studies in Oriental studies at the University of Berlin, he devoted himself to the study of issues of the history of Ottoman culture and Islamic history in general. The fruit of his many years of research in the above fields are a series of monographs, documentary publications, study articles, etc. A central place in the corpus of Babinger’s works is occupied by the monograph ” Mehmed der Eroberer und seine Zeit <\/i>” (“Mehmet the Conqueror and his time”, 1953), which has been reprinted and translated into several languages, making him well known in all the world. Within the circle of his studies, an important place is also occupied by some important issues from the Ottoman and pre-Ottoman history of Albania, such as: “Die Griindung von Elbasan” <\/i>(“The Foundation of Elbasan”, 1931), “Das Ende der Arianiten” <\/i>, (“The end of the Arians”, 1960), “Journey of Evlija Celebi to Albania”, etc., which place Babinger among the Albanianologists.
