Xhevat Kor\u00e7a, teacher, translator, politician and historian, died in Burrel prison. He was born in Kor\u00e7a in 1893. He attended university studies in Vienna, at the Faculty of Philosophy. Upon returning to his homeland, he was appointed a teacher in the city of Shkodra (1922) and director of the high school of Shkodra (1923). Politically, he was one of the supporters of the June Movement (1924) and a supporter of Noli, and for this reason he was forced to leave the country after the return of Ahmet Zogu to power. He settled in Belgrade for several years, where he also served as a professor of Albanian language and literature at the university. After the invasion of Albania by Italy in 1939, he returned to his homeland and in 1942 took the post of Minister of Education in the government of Mustafa Kruja. In April 1945, he was sentenced to death by the Special Court, but that was commuted to life imprisonment. He died in the prison of Burrel, in July 1949. Xhevat Kor\u00e7a has also made a great contribution in the field of translations, a large part of which is preserved in manuscript in the Central State Archive.
