{"id":6726,"date":"2026-04-08T00:15:40","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T00:15:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.albanianheritage.al\/2023\/10\/11\/sotir-peci\/---99793e69-814b-4c2f-a528-432c312ed313"},"modified":"2026-04-08T00:15:40","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T00:15:40","slug":"sotir-peci","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.albanianheritage.al\/en\/2026\/04\/08\/sotir-peci\/","title":{"rendered":"Sotir Peci"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>On April 8, 1932 <\/strong>, in Follorina, Greece, Sotir Peci, an activist of the National Renaissance and the period of Independence, an outstanding figure of national education, Teacher of the People, passed away. He published the &#8220;Kombi&#8221; newspaper in Boston (USA) (1906\u20131908). Together with Petro Nini Luarasi and Fan Noli, they played a role in the formation of the &#8220;Besa-Bes\u00ebn&#8221; society in Boston, in 1907, and the &#8220;Lidhja&#8221; society in Saint Louis (Saint Louis), etc. He participated in the Congress of Manastir (1908). With the opening of the Normal School in Elbasan (1909), he was appointed a mathematics and natural sciences teacher. He directed the Albanian School of Kor\u00e7a (1911\u20131912). He was a member of the National Party (1914\u20131920), which was founded in Shkod\u00ebr with branches in the country&#8217;s main cities, to oppose the plans of the Great Powers and the neighbors for the fragmentation of Albania. He participated as a delegate in the meeting of the National Congress of Lushnja (1920) and in the government that he formed, he was elected Minister of Education. For a few years, he was a member of the Supreme Council. After the suppression of the Democratic Revolution of June 1924, he emigrated abroad.
