Jani Vreto, patriot and thinker of the National Renaissance was born. He finished the “Zosimea” school in Ioannina. In 1854, he settled in Istanbul, where he was elected a member of the Central Committee for the Protection of the Rights of the Albanian Nationality. Together with Ismail Qemali, Hoxha Tahsini, Kostandin Kristoforidhi and Pashko Vasa, they formulated and approved the Istanbul Alphabet. Jani Vreto has written a series of works and articles, such as: “Apology” (1878), “For the truth and for writing the truth” (1883), “Mir\u00ebvetija” (1886) etc. He has given opinions and worked on morality, religion, social life, on the written Albanian language, on opening schools in the mother tongue, on spreading culture and knowledge among Albanians.
