Ferit Vokopola, a politician, theologian, translator, and organizer of the Congress of Lushnja, was one of the signatories of the Declaration of Independence in Vlora on November 28, 1912. Born in Vokopol, Berat, he was the youngest signatory of the Act of Independence and among the founders of the Tirana Madrasah, as well as one of the most representative authors of Islamic mysticism in Albania.
Kastriot Islami, a physicist, professor, and political activist, was born in Tirana. He served as the chairman of the Assembly of Albania (1991–1992) and was elected in the first elections following the establishment of political pluralism.
