Osman Kazazi

Osman Kazazi, intellectual, nationalist, member of the National Front, passed away. He was born in Tirana, in 1917. He completed primary school in Tirana, and secondary school in the gymnasium of Shkodra. He participated in the protests and demonstrations organized in the cities of Shkodra and Tirana, against the Italian occupation of the country. In September 1939, he enrolled in the “La SapienzaUniversity in Rome, Department of Pharmacy. In the summer of 1942, he returned for the summer holidays and decided to stop his studies, to dedicate himself to the fight against the invaders in the ranks of the National Front. He contributed to the press of this organization, as well as to the organization of the anti-fascist resistance in Tirana. With the end of the war and the coming to power of the communists, the ordeal of his sufferings began. On November 14, 1944, the communists arrested him as an activist of the National Front and as an anti-communist; was imprisoned and interned for over 40 years of his life. With the fall of communism, he was elected president of the Politically Persecuted Association of Albania. In 1992, the President of the Republic decorated him with the “Torch of Democracymedal. In 1997, he was awarded the titleHonorary Citizen of Shkodra”, and a year later, “Honorary Citizen of Tirana”. He was also decorated by the Vatican with the “Joannes PP II” Gold Medal, as well as “For merits in the service of the peoplefrom the city of Verona. (In the photo: Osman Kazazi)
