Robert Schwarz, translator, passed away. Born in Sarajevo (Bosnia-Herzegovina) in 1932. In 1938 the family (Jewish father, Albanian mother) moved to Shkodër and then to Tirana. In his youth he published stories and poems. He mainly dealt with literary translations, bringing into Albanian some of the giants of world literature, such as Johan V. Goethe, H. Heine, Bertolt Brecht, Stefan Zweig, Gabriel Márquez, and others. He translated into German the works of the most prominent authors of Albanian literature, such as Ismail Kadare, Dritëro Agolli, Rexhep Qosja, Fatos Arapi, etc. Robert Schwarz’s translations stand out for a precise and rich language and for liveliness in the delivery of dialogues. He was honored with the German decoration “Cross of Merit” and the “Grand Master” order. (In the photo: Robert Schwarz)
