Sabri Godo, writer and politician, passed away in Tirana. He was born in Delvina, in 1929. In 1943, he joined the partisan forces and remained in the army even after the war. In 1948 he was expelled from the army and then from the Labor Party of Albania (1950). He worked in various sectors of the economy until he became a freelancer. Sabri Godo has written stories, novels and literary biographies. The volume of short stories “Zëra nga burime të nxehta” (“Voices from hot sources”)(1971) and the novel “Prova e zjarrit” (“The test of fire”)(1977) about the partisan war, tended to portray the ordinary people who fought the war, to describe without emphasis their patriotic devotion, sacrifice and self-denial. The main works of Sabri Godo are: “Ali Pashë Tepelena” (1970) and “Skënderbeu” (“Skanderbeg”)(1975), which stand out both for the rich historical data and for the masterful recreation of these two great figures of Albanian history. With these works, he inaugurated the biographical novel in Albanian literature. With the establishment of political pluralism, in January 1991, Sabri Godo was among the founders of the Republican Party of Albania and its first chairman. In the years 1996-2001, he was a deputy of the Assembly of Albania and chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Assembly. He assisted in the drafting of the Constitution of Albania as co-chairman of the relevant Commission (1998). (In the photo: Sabri Godo)
