Ali Shefqeti (Shkupi)

In Shkodra, Ali Shefqeti (Shkupi) passed away. He was an officer, leader, and senior Albanian military figure during the years 1910–1935. He was born in Peja in 1883. He attended the military secondary school in Manastir, the Higher Military School, and the General Staff Academy in Istanbul, where he graduated as a captain. He served in various positions in units and garrisons of the Ottoman Empire in Macedonia, Thessaloniki, and Istanbul. In April 1913, he entered the service of the Provisional Government of Vlora and was appointed Chief of Staff. Alongside Minister of War Mehmet Dërralla and other Albanian officers, he significantly assisted in organizing and directing the staff and other structures of the Albanian army. He led the work on drafting the “Regulation for the Organization of the Albanian Militia.” The government emerging from the Congress of Lushnjë (1920) appointed him commander of the Armed Forces and later Chief of Staff. He participated in the June 1924 Revolution, so after its defeat, he was expelled from the army, and in 1935, he was arrested and sentenced for participating in the Fier Uprising (1935).
