The “Albanian Sports Federation” (FSSH) was founded in Tirana with 3 sections: athletics-gymnastics-swimming, sports games, and heavy sports. 1932, the Albanian Sports Federation joined the International Federation of Athletics and Football. In 1945, the “Albanian Sports Federation” was reorganized and expanded with more types of sports. In 1949, the State Committee of Physical Culture and Sports (KSHKFS) was established, which in 1958 was transformed into the “Committee of the Union of Physical Culture and Sportsmen of Albania” (BFSSH). The BFSSH committee established the sports federations of football, heavy shooting sports, hand games, athletics, gymnastics, and mountaineering, and the central commission of chess, cycling, and swimming. With the suppression of the “Union of Bodybuilders and Sportsmen of Albania” (1992), Albanian sports federations were established by the provisions of the Civil Code of the Republic of Albania, according to Law no. 8114, dated 28.03.1996 “For sport”. Today, 27 sports federations are active in the Republic of Albania , while in Kosovo the number of federations has reached 21. (In the photo: Emblem of the Albanian Football Federation.)
