In Shkodra, an atheistic exhibition titled “Mbi rolin reaksionar të fesë” (On the reactionary role of religion) was inaugurated, which remained open for 5 years and also served as a traveling exhibition, going to villages, mountainous areas, and industrial zones to conduct anti-religious propaganda. On June 9, 1973, the exhibition was transformed into an “Atheist Museum” with anti-religious propaganda. At the entrance of the museum, a quote by Marx was placed: “Religion is the opium of the people.” In each pavilion, documents, photos, and various materials were exhibited aiming to highlight the hostile and reactionary role of the clergy, especially the Catholic clergy, as servants of the Vatican and imperialism. Additionally, this museum had a mobile exhibition consisting of 23 stands, which was displayed in various areas, not only in Shkodra but also throughout Albania. Albania ranked as the first country in the world to have an atheist museum. The “Atheist Museum” remained open until December 13, 1990. (In the photo: Exterior view of the “Atheist Museum” building.)
